Conveniently located to serve the areas of Houston, TX

An eyelid lift is a surgical procedure that can address both the upper and lower eyelids to help patients look more awake and refreshed. (1) This is a popular procedure here in Houston because improving the eye region can transform the entire look of the face subtly and naturally. Patients appreciate the ability to improve sagging eye skin, protruding eye fat, and undereye hollows that can be caused by aging, genetics, and other factors..
At the Memorial Center for Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Oren Paul Mushin performs eyelid surgery with a background of cosmetic and reconstructive expertise. His results are natural and balanced, helping patients turn back the clock and reflect their inner vitality.

About Eyelid Lifts
Our eyes are our window to the world. They are also one of the first features most people notice. The tissues around our eyelids are among the thinnest and most delicate in the body, and they are oftentimes among the first facial regions to succumb to signs of aging and the effects of gravity. If you are in Houston and you are curious about how an eyelid lift might improve your situation, we encourage you to consider attending a personal consultation to learn more.
There are several different types of eyelid surgeries, depending on whether you would like the top or bottom lids addressed, whether there is any excess fat that needs to be removed, or if there are any issues with your eyelid position. Dr. Mushin is highly experienced in a wide range of eyelid lift variations and techniques. To learn more about these procedures and the other facial surgeries we offer, call our office today at (713) 722-7400.
Procedure
Have you been told you look sleepy, even though you feel well rested? Are you tired of those droopy eyelids that creams can’t fix? An eyelid lift in Houston might be a great option for you.
Depending on your needs, Dr. Mushin may need to remove skin, reposition your lids, and or remove fat. These modifications typically vary from one patient to another, so Dr. Mushin always takes an individualized approach.
Dr. Mushin typically performs eyelid lifts with the patient under local anesthesia with or without IV sedation. This may be done in the office or in an ambulatory surgery center setting, depending on the specific type of surgery, and if any procedures are being combined.
Upper Eyelid Lift
For patients undergoing an upper eyelid lift, Dr. Mushin will make an incision in the natural eyelid crease. Through this incision, he will remove excess tissue from the eyelid and reposition tissue as needed. This will allow the eyes to appear to open up more.
Lower Eyelid Lift
For a lower eyelid lift, Dr. Mushin can take one of two approaches depending on the main concerns. If you have puffy fat pads and good skin elasticity, Dr. Mushin can make an incision within the eyelid and reposition or remove some of the fat to create a smoother look. If you have more sagging skin, he will recommend an external incision so he can effectively remove it.
The upper and lower eyelid lifts can be combined for patients who want to address both areas.

Recovery
The length of recovery often varies with the type of blepharoplasty Dr. Mushin performs at our Houston surgery center. At the time of your consultation, Dr. Mushin will outline your recovery process.
In general, the recovery process will follow a similar course for patients:
- Day of Procedure: You will likely be given cold packs to place on your eyes after surgery. These will remain in place until you go home. You will also be given antibiotic ointment to administer in your eye and on your incision. We recommend that you get plenty of rest, have someone there to assist you around your home, and elevate your head while you sleep.
- First Week: You will be seen by Dr. Mushin at the office 5-7 days after surgery so that he can follow up with you and remove sutures. We encourage you to ask any questions you have during this time so that we can make sure you have the best experience possible.
- Subsequent Weeks: After about two weeks, you will be able to resume most of your normal activities. Scarring in the eyelid region is usually very discreet and well-tolerated. Over the following weeks, you can expect your scars to heal and for your final, more youthful appearance to take hold. You should refrain from more strenuous activities until Dr. Mushin approves.
Corresponding Procedures
Brow Lift
In some cases, patients come to the office thinking they need an eyelid lift, when in reality, a brow lift would better address their concerns. A brow lift is a surgical procedure that physically lifts the brows and removes excess tissue to address deep folds in the forehead and brow sagging. Some patients may also benefit from both a brow lift and an eyelid lift.
Facelift
To address the lower face as well as the upper face, patients can undergo a facelift. A facelift lifts the facial skin and the underlying layers to rejuvenate the face and address facial sagging in the lower face and neck. These procedures together offer total facial rejuvenation that effectively ‘turns back the clock.’
Dermal Fillers
For a nonsurgical option, patients can opt for injectables to address wrinkles, facial volume loss, and improve facial definition in multiple areas. Our clinic exclusively uses RHA (Resilient Hyaluronic Acid). This type of filler adds immediate volume and has long-lasting yet temporary results.
Cost of Eyelid Lifts in Houston, TX
The cost of your eyelid lift may also vary depending on whether you undergo an upper eyelid lift, lower eyelid lift, or both, as well as if you undergo additional corresponding procedures.
In order to determine the actual cost of your procedure, you will need to attend a personal consultation. Contact Memorial Center for Plastic Surgery online or by phone at (713) 722-7400 to request yours!
FAQ
Can I get both an upper and lower eyelid lift at the same time?
Yes! This is a very common approach for patients that Dr. Mushin is very experienced in. Many patients want to undergo both of the procedures at the same time because both regions are similarly susceptible to showing the effects of aging quite early in the aging process.
Will I have a visible scar after my eyelid lift?
This depends on the type of eyelid lift you undergo. In any case, any external incisions will be very discreet and very visible, as they are designed to blend with your natural features. For an upper eyelid lift, there will always be an external incision in the crease of the eyelid. For the lower eyelid lift, the incision can either be internal, for patients who mainly want to address fat, or external, just below the lash line, for patients who want to address sagging skin.
How long is the recovery after an eyelid lift?
After an eyelid lift, you can expect to experience about two weeks of downtime. However, you may be able to resume lighter activities, such as desk work, before this time. You will need to wait until Dr. Mushin approves before resuming more strenuous activities like exercise.
Do I need a brow lift or an upper eyelid lift?
This is a very common question, the answer to which depends on the patient and their unique situation. For patients whose main concern is in the brow region, above the eyes, and in the forehead, a brow lift is usually recommended. Some patients’ brows begin to sag into the upper eyelid region, making it confusing for them to tell which procedure they would benefit from most. For patients whose primary concern is in the upper eyelid itself, below the brow, an eyelid lift may be best.
